2020 NFL Draft: Grades for all 32 first-round picks
Grade: B
For the first time in what seems like forever, the Los Angeles Chargers will start the 2020 campaign with someone other than Philip Rivers under center. And while I don’t think Justin Herbert will be handed the job, he figures to be the face of this franchise moving forward.
With that said, Chargers fans may see many of the same things they’ve watched with Rivers over the years. Herbert has a tremendous arm but tends to get overly confident in his abilities to force the ball into tight windows. That worked out well at Oregon, but those types of throws will turn into interceptions at the next level.
Still, the physical tools and arm talent are there. Herbert is athletic, is a proven winner and has plenty of weapons around him in Los Angeles. Assuming he beats out Tyrod Taylor for the starting job, Herbert will be the man to lead the Chargers moving forward.
It feels like a reach to me.
