Washington Redskins: Grading every Day 3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft
By Hunter Noll
Round 5 (No. 156 Overall): Keith Ismael, IOL
With the 156th overall pick, the Redskins selected Keith Ismael. Ismael is a center out of San Diego State. And it’s impossible to be upset with this pick here. One of Washington’s most obvious needs entering the draft was the offensive line. They need not only depth but players that can fight for a starting spot.
Center is definitely a question mark for the Redskins. Chase Roullier isn’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination. Giving him some competition isn’t a bad thing though. Not only that, but Ismael can slide to guard if needed. And Washington could use some competition there.
No fan of the Redskins is going to complain about more help on the offensive line. Every year it seems the entire unit goes down at some point and they are throwing random names out there.
It helps that Ismael is really solid too. He possesses a good combination of size, strength and athleticism. Legitimate chance to fight for a spot in the rotation and is more protection for Haskins.
That should be the goal of this draft right? Help Haskins as much as possible with protection and weapons? So far Washington’s getting the job done. Outside of the obvious Chase Young protection at No. 2 overall, every pick as been an offensive player. And they’ve all been solid selections. Ismael is no exception to that.
Pick Grade: B+
