Washington Redskins: Grading every Day 3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft
By Hunter Noll
Round 5 (No. 162 Overall): Khaleke Hudson, OLB
Welp. Just mentioned how the Redskins have only gone offense since they took Young with the second overall pick. Then they quickly turned around and selected Khaleke Hudson out of Michigan with the 162nd overall pick.
Hudson is a little bit of an odd selection here. He’s an outside linebacker, which isn’t really much of a need for Washington. They have a very solid front seven and Hudson is a depth selection.
He’s extremely fast and has a lot of potential. Undersized at 5-11 though, Hudson needs to use that speed to make up for it. Admittedly, this seemed like a great spot for the Redskins to take a tight end. As that was a serious position of need for Washington, it was a little disappointing that they didn’t go that route here.
That might make Hudson look like a little bit worse of a pick here than he actually is.
Washington got a depth linebacker who has great speed and athleticism and can use that to come in relief and pick up a few sacks and be a sneaky good playmaker (maybe a great special teamer too).
In the later rounds, you’re usually going for depth. So you can’t fault the Redskins too much there. The ideal move would be going for positions of need though. So that definitely hurts the value here a little.
There’s no denying Hudson has a lot to like though. He just needs to overcome the obstacles set ahead of him. Give him some time to develop and this could be a much better pick than anyone is calling it right now.
Pick Grade: C+
