S. Scouting Report. Round 2. Grant Delpit. Pick 44. player. 53. Pick Analysis

Last season, the Cleveland Browns were without a first-round pick but needed a cornerback badly. They ended up moving up from the 49th spot to land one, although they didn’t have to go too far as they jumped to No. 46 where they took LSU’s Greedy Williams. At the time, it was one of the biggest steals as Williams entered the weekend with a first-round grade.

Fast-forward to this year and the Browns once again landed a defensive back from LSU in the second round despite his first-round talent. Grant Delpit was considered one of the top safeties in the class and often had his name mocked in Round 1. However, he was not only available for Cleveland to take in the second round, but they even traded back to get him.

Originally owning the No. 41 overall pick, the Browns took the 160th overall pick (in Round 5) from the Indianapolis Colts to move to pick 44. Oddly enough, the Colts were the same team that traded with during the 2019 draft to land Williams.

Delpit did have a bit of a decline in his play in 2019 but showed the season prior that he can be an elite player. Even with his slide during his final season, Delpit still proved he can get the job done and should be a game-changer for Cleveland.

He’ll join a revamped defensive backfield that saw Damarious Randall and Morgan Burnett exit this offseason while they replaced them with Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo. Cleveland wasn’t thrilled with the play of their safeties last year and there’s no doubt they will be better now, especially after this steal.
