19. 13. Texas. Samuel Cosmi. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT

Considering that they selected him with the No. 6 overall pick, the Los Angeles Chargers believe they found their quarterback of the future in Justin Herbert. While I’m dubious of that actually being the case, the goal now for the Bolts is to develop him at the proper pace and put him in the best position to succeed.

For the most part, the Chargers are in a good position to do that. They have a veteran stopgap in Tyrod Taylor who allows LA to bring Herbert along at their own pace. Meanwhile, Keenan Allen is the most underrated elite wide receiver in the NFL while Mike Williams and Hunter Henry are good long-term options as well.

What’s lacking from this roster right now is a franchise left tackle. Make no mistake, the Chargers have done a good job in reshaping that unit this offseason but they neglected to go after an offensive tackle in the draft with a premium pick. That can’t be the case in 2021.

Samuel Cosmi out of Texas is the pick and for good reason. He started at right tackle for the Longhorns in 2018 and then on the left side in 2019. Cosmi has a nice frame at 6-7, 300 pounds and moves well for his size and knows how to use his length. While he needs to get stronger and add to that frame a bit, all the workings are there for him to be the tackle the Chargers currently lack.
