LSU. player. 56. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WR. Ja'Marr Chase. 3

One team that we can be sure does not need a quarterback as we go into the 2020 season and the beginning of the 2021 NFL Draft cycle is the Cincinnati Bengals. They just took Joe Burrow with the No. 1 pick and, after a Heisman-winning season at LSU, he has the look of a franchise guy.

But even though the Bengals nabbed Clemson’s Tee Higgins at the start of the second round — a pick I’m, admittedly, not the biggest fan of as Higgins was a late-second-round player on my board — Cincinnati needs to upgrade the wide receiver room for the future. Tyler Boyd is quite good but A.J. Green is one the one-year tag and John Ross hasn’t panned out.

So why not pair Burrow with his touchdown machine from the LSU offense, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase? As a true sophomore, Chase was exceptionally dominant in the high-octane passing game. He reeled in 84 receptions for an unreal 1,780 yards and 20 (yes, twenty) touchdowns for the Tigers. It’s crazy that Burrow threw 60 but even wilder that Chase caught one-third of them.

Some have questioned the overall long speed of the 6-1 wide receiver. But his route-running is good, his hands are sticky as can be and he clearly separated enough to win a lot as a sophomore. Reuniting him with Burrow is a no-brainer.
