Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 5. 30. EDGE. Miami. Gregory Rousseau. player

I’m a big fan of what the New York Jets did in the 2020 draft. They started by getting protection for Sam Darnold in the first round with Mekhi Becton. Then, not liking the value in the middle of the second round, the Jets traded down and got Darnold a weapon in Denzel Mims. As for the rest of the class, they added a number of prospects who should be able to help Gang Green go from middlers in the AFC East to a team that is at least reasonably capable of making a jump.

What could potentially keep the Jets from making that jump, however, is the work that still remains to be done in the front seven. It’s been the better part of a decade since they had a singular force in terms of their pass rush. So with the No. 5 overall pick in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft, it only makes sense for New York to finally change that with Miami’s Gregory Rousseau, who has the makings of a game-wrecking force.

Rousseau was a long, slight-framed recruit for the Hurricanes but, after a medical redshirt, he put on over 30 pounds and dominated this past season. The 6-6, 253-pound EDGE had 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss as a redshirt freshman. He’s explosive and extremely long, which makes him a nightmare for opposing offensive tackles and quarterbacks in college and, as it stands now, in the NFL down the line.
