Scouting Report. player. 50. Pick Analysis. IDL. Florida State. Marvin Wilson. 7

Without question, the Detroit Lions made some nice strides in the 2020 draft to help improve a defense that, quite honestly, has underperformed a great deal under the watch of head coach Matt Patricia.

In the first round, the Pride landed a readymade replacement for Darius Slay in Jeffrey Okudah and then got an athletic edge rusher with upside at the start of the third round with the selection of Julian Okwara. But looking forward, this defense still needs work in the middle of the field. They need a force either at defensive tackle or linebacker.

Florida State’s Marvin Wilson flirted with the idea of entering the 2020 draft but ultimately decided to return to Tallahassee for one more year. That could be a hugely beneficial decision as he should not only develop more but he should get a little more love as the Seminoles should improve now that Willie Taggart is gone.

On the interior defensive line, Wilson is a versatile and dangerous presence. In only nine games, he had 44 total tackles, 5.0 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. The way he moves at 6-5, 311 pounds is rare and he would give Patricia and Detroit an attention-demanding presence that opens up the rest of the defense.
