New York Giants

There are plenty jokes out there about New York Giants general manager Dave Gettelman and his old-school approach to the game. There were also plenty flying last season after it seemed he reached in the first round for both quarterback Daniel Jones and nose tackle Dexter Lawrence.

After their work in the 2020 NFL Draft, there probably aren’t many chuckling at the veteran GM. Gettleman made some very strong picks and he was spot on at No. 4 overall. With many thinking Tristan Wirfs had elevated himself ahead of Andrew Thomas due to his workouts, Gettleman stuck to the tape and took Thomas, who was the best left tackle in the nation last season.

Gettelman also took advantage of some good fortune as snatched up Alabama safety Xavier McKinney who surprisingly made it out of the first round. Other solid picks included Connecticut offensive tackle Matt Peart and Oregon interior offensive lineman Shane Lemieux.

It was clear that he was ready to turn over the entire offensive line, which in itself deserves praise. Gettelman has put a lot of work into that unit and overhauling them is admitting a mistake, which is something many general managers don’t care to do. Even better, he did this while still landing great value and a game-changing defender.
