Chicago Bears

Oh Chicago, what is you doing? The Chicago Bears are a weird team. They just paid Jimmy Graham $8 million per season after he underperformed in Green Bay. This came after landing Nick Foles in a trade and will have him battle with Mitchell Trubisky — a competition where no one really wins.

Then after having to sit out in the first round due to the Khalil Mack trade, they decided to use their top pick on another tight end. No offense to Cole Kmet, who is a great prospect, but this wasn’t their need — and if it was, then they overpaid Graham. Which is concerning considering they released Trey Burton after signing Graham, another high-priced tight end addition for them.

They were saved by a couple of solid picks as Jaylon Johnson at No. 50 was a great value as was Darnell Mooney, the Tulsa wideout who they picked up in the fifth. There’s also a lot to like about Kindle Vildor, the Georgia Southern cornerback, but he will need some work considering the talent he faced collegiately.

There just aren’t many scenarios where it seems as though head coach Matt Nagy and the Bears are going to be looked at as a contender in the NFC. But at least they did add some talent, even if it wasn’t at major positions of need.
