Round 1, Pick 30: Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn

Grade: D

The Miami Dolphins were not in a position to be picky with prospects. They needed guys who could help come in and contribute right away. Picking the best player available seemed like a reasonable strategy, especially after trading down from No. 26 to No. 30.

There were some excellent prospects available, especially at the running back and safety positions. Grier decided to bolster the secondary by taking Auburn’s Noah Igbinoghene.

There’s one word to describe Igbinoghene: explosiveness. He has a stocky build with excellent strength at the line of scrimmage. The former Auburn Tiger presses will and brings tenacity the Miami Dolphins are looking for.

His playing style is in sync with Byron Jones and Xavien Howard’s physicality. He can line up on the outside in certain packages like when Byron Jones lines you at safety. Additionally, thanks to his athletic traits and quickness he could line up in the nickel spot.

This was a reach considering the talent left on the board and not a position of need. They could have easily taken a top running back like, DeAndre Swift, Jonathan Taylor or Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Worst-case scenario, Igbinoghene will likely help on special teams early on if he doesn’t find a home on defense.
