2020 NFL Draft: Every team’s best pick – Joe Burrow, Chase Young and who else?
By Dan Parzych
Even though there were plenty of rumors leading up to the draft over the possibility of the Detroit Lions trading the No. 3 pick, no one was surprised to see them hang on to the selection.
While Joe Burrow and Chase Young basically seemed like locks for the top two overall picks, Jeffrey Okudah was always considered a strong candidate for the third overall pick due to the Ohio State product arguably being the top cornerback from this year’s class.
Over the years, the Buckeyes have seen plenty of their former defenders go on to have successful careers in the NFL, especially at the cornerback position.
An individual like Okudah isn’t going to single-handedly turn things around for the Lions after the team won just three games all of last season, but it’s certainly a major step in the right direction on the defensive side of the football.
Matt Patricia will most likely be feeling the heat to help Detroit turn things around to become a legitimate playoff contender again in the NFC when seeing how his first two seasons turned out, and at least the addition of Okudah will help fill a major need at cornerback.
Plus, in a matter of time, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Okudah ended up becoming one of the key leaders on defense for the Lions.
