Linebacker. player. 124. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Mississippi State. Willie Gay Jr.. 63

Believe it or not, even a team stacked with as much talent as the Kansas City Chiefs after winning the Super Bowl could use some help in certain areas leading up to the 2020 season, one of which is arguably linebacker.

Watching the Chiefs finally live up to the high expectations for a change after years of always coming up short was truly incredible to witness last season, and the team appears to be in great position to repeat with all of the starters set to return.

Normally, Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense receive most of the attention for the team’s success, but the defense deserves just as much credit when seeing how sharp the unit looked down the stretch in 2019 along with the postseason.

Now that Kansas City will be playing with targets on their backs, it will be important for the defense to pick up where they left off, and if Willie Gay Jr. can find a way to contribute right away, it will only put the defense in better shape to come through.

Not all rookies are fortunate enough to join teams already in great shape to be a top contender in the NFL, but luckily this isn’t an issue for Gay since the Chiefs are already viewed as heavy Super Bowl favorites to repeat.
