2020 NFL Draft: Every team’s best pick – Joe Burrow, Chase Young and who else?
By Dan Parzych
With the New York Jets finally appearing to have a reliable quarterback to build the franchise around in Sam Darnold, the team entered the draft with the hope of finding him better protection for the 2020 season.
Despite some troubles at the combine, Louisville’s Mekhi Becton has watched his draft stock rise in one of the best ways possible over the months leading up to the draft, and seeing his massive size along with speed should have the Jets extremely excited.
Becton obviously still has plenty to prove as far as making the transition to the NFL is concerned, but if his time with the Cardinals is any indication of what to expect, New York should be in great shape with their new lineman.
One can only imagine how different things would have been for the Jets last season if Darnold didn’t miss the beginning of the year due to mono, but at least 2020 will be a fresh start.
Between adding another year of experience under his belt along with benefitting from the addition of Becton to provide better protection, New York should expect big things in 2020 from Darnold.
And if this turns out to be the case, don’t sleep on the Jets as a potential playoff contender in the AFC.
