2020 NFL Draft: Every team’s best pick – Joe Burrow, Chase Young and who else?
By Dan Parzych
With all of the high-powered offenses across the NFC South, the Carolina Panthers are going to need all of the help possible on the defensive side of the football just to have a fighting chance to compete for the division title.
After focusing on defense during this year’s draft, the Panthers certainly deserve a ton of credit for putting themselves in great position to do so in 2020, and while there are plenty of great candidates to choose for the top pick, it’s tough to beat out Derrick Brown.
Rightfully so, Brown was considered one of the top defenders from this year’s draft class following a phenomenal career at Auburn, and one can only imagine Matt Rhule’s high level of excitement over landing the Tigers star.
In each of the last two seasons, Carolina appeared to be on their way to earning one of the playoff spots in the NFC before everything fell apart in the final two months, which was a major reason behind the decision to fire Ron Rivera.
Rhule will certainly be facing all sorts of heavy pressure heading into his first season as head coach with the high expectations surrounding the Panthers, and even though it will be difficult for anyone to make a similar impact as Luke Kuechly did, at least Brown is better than nothing.
