Clayton Geathers

Clayton Geathers is another pretty young veteran option available to the Chicago Bears. He is just 27 years old and could hit his stride in Chicago’s defense. Also, he could interchange between strong and free safety, giving defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano flexibility.

The Indianapolis Colts liked the play of Khari Willis enough to let Geathers walk away. Geathers hasn’t gotten the offers he expected so here he is looking for a team.

Geathers does have a history of injuries. He played in only 14 games between 2016 and 2017. He did get better in 2018 and 2019, though, playing in 27 games. If he signs a one-year deal and does well and shows he can stay relatively healthy then he could cash in later.

It’ll be a good thing for the Bears as well. They could get another player trying to impress enough for a new contract. This is exactly what they did with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. They got a good season out of someone playing for a new contract. They spent plenty on Jackson so they could get a few starters on one-year deals before they find the guy they really want.

Geathers is a good, not great player who would fit into this elite defense. Surrounded by elite players his game should elevate. Playing well is infectious. Once you see your teammates play on top of their game, you want to follow suit. If Geathers does that, it’ll be good for him and for the Bears.
