Chicago Bears: 5 Best free agents still available at safety
Morgan Burnett
The Cleveland Browns did something that many thought the Chicago Bears would do — draft safety Grant Delpit. Delpit was a highly regarded prospect who projected to go in the first round but ended up getting picked in the second round, right after the Bears selected tight end Cole Kmet.
The Browns let go of Morgan Burnett so they could draft Delpit. The Bears could sign him and bring him back to the NFC North where he starred with the Green Bay Packers.
Burnett could be used all over the field. In addition to playing both safety spots, he also plays linebacker and cornerback. Pagano would have a field day with the sub-packages he could come up with. And coming back to the North and helping beat his old team? That’s a bonus for Burnett.
Here is another safety trying to prove something. He suffered an Achilles tendon injury last season. He missed the last eight games because of it. If he could show he’s over that injury he could sign his last multi-year contract. He’s played 11 seasons and won a Super Bowl with the Packers.
If he could come back and succeed with the elite Bears defense, and perhaps helping them beat the rival Packers and win a title for Chicago, Burnett could try to cash in for another team or perhaps ride off into the sunset.
