2020 NFL Power Rankings, post-draft: Cowboys big winners, Packers major losers
By Dan Parzych
Leading up to the start of last season, expectations were high for the Chicago Bears since the team was coming off a surprise NFC North title the year before due to their defense emerging as a top unit in the league.
Unfortunately, the defense looked sharp for the most part once again in 2019, but poor play on offense played a major role in the Bears watching the playoffs from home.
While it sounds unfair to put all the blame on one individual since football is a team sport, Mitch Trubisky certainly received a ton of criticism for his inconsistent play on offense.
To this day, Bears fans are still haunted over the fact that Chicago chose Trubisky over both Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson a few years ago.
Obviously, it was difficult to determine at the time how great the other two quarterbacks would turn out to be, but also watching both quarterbacks succeed while Trubisky struggles for the most part always seems to be a slap to the face.
Whether Nick Foles has what it takes to beat Trubisky for the starting job will be determined in time, but at least the offense, in general, received a new big body to work with at tight end in Notre Dame’s Cole Kmet.
The former Fighting Irish star isn’t going to solve all the issues on offense Chicago dealt with in 2019, but at least his presence could provide an extra boost for Trubisky or Foles to rely on.
