2020 NFL Power Rankings, post-draft: Cowboys big winners, Packers major losers
By Dan Parzych
Even though there was some last-minute discussion over the possibility of the Detroit Lions trading the No. 3 pick, most football fans assumed that Matt Patricia and company would end up hanging on to the selection.
Basically, with all of the pressure surrounding the Lions to turn things around during Patricia’s third season as head coach after the results from the last two years, Detroit most likely would have regretted their decision to pass on Jeffrey Okudah.
Ohio State has established a strong reputation over the years for seeing plenty of their defenders go on to be top defenders in the NFL, and Okudah seems like the kind of player who won’t need much time before becoming part of the impressive list.
Since quarterback wasn’t as big of a need for Detroit as other teams in the first round since they still seem confident in Matthew Stafford being their best option, the Lions were able to take advantage of Okudah being available at No. 3.
With Darius Slay officially out of the picture after Detroit traded the three-time Pro Bowler to the Philadelphia Eagles in March, Okudah will be in great position to quickly move into the No. 1 cornerback spot on defense for the Lions.
