2020 NFL Power Rankings, post-draft: Cowboys big winners, Packers major losers
By Dan Parzych
Two years ago, the New York Jets felt confident enough in Sam Darnold being their best option to build the offense around following an impressive career at USC.
One can only imagine how different things would have been last season for the Jets if Darnold didn’t miss the beginning of the year due to mono, but at least New York managed to end 2019 on a high note as one of the hottest teams in the AFC down the stretch.
Now, all eyes will be on Darnold and the Jets entering the 2020 season to see if the team has what it takes to pick right up where they left off, or if they are going to be heading towards another year of rebuilding.
New York realizes the best chance of this happening will come down to whether Darnold can elevate his game to a new level during his third NFL season.
Having the right weapons to work with on offense will obviously be important for the Jets, but Darnold will need the proper protection as well from his offensive line.
Despite some of the previous concerns surrounding Louisville’s Mekhi Becton, this was the perfect selection for the Jets in the first round when seeing the lineman’s massive size and strength.
With Becton, New York should see their newest body earn a starting role right away come September.
