2020 NFL Power Rankings, post-draft: Cowboys big winners, Packers major losers
By Dan Parzych
Unfortunately, the Pittsburgh Steelers learned the hard way last season the importance of having a reliable backup quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger went down early on with a season-ending elbow injury.
There were times in which Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges appeared to show potential, but unfortunately the two turned out to be major factors behind the Steelers coming up short in reaching the playoffs.
Keep in mind that Pittsburgh was actually in control of their own destiny in the final weeks of the 2019 season before falling apart during the last three games that resulted in the Steelers watching the playoffs from home.
Hopefully, an entire offseason to recover will help Big Ben return to his previous ways on offense since he has proven to be a top quarterback when healthy.
And while Roethlisberger will certainly benefit from having a young wideout in JuJu Smith-Schuster continue to rise, Pittsburgh hopes the addition of Chase Claypool helps as well.
The Notre Dame wideout certainly isn’t going to solve all the issues experienced by the Steelers on offense last season, but at least Claypool can improve the receiving corps in a big way.
Playing in the same division as the Baltimore Ravens is just one of many challenges Pittsburgh will be facing in 2020, and if the offense fails to get back on track, chances could be made around this time next year.
