Ranking every NFL team’s offensive supporting cast post-draft
17. Buffalo Bills
RB: Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, T.J. Yeldon (20/25)
These running backs might be young, but they present a perfect compliment to each other. Singletary is a shifty back that is able to avoid first contact and thrive in the passing game, while Moss is a physical downhill runner who can break tackles and punch the ball into the red zone. I believe this group will be better than their ranking, but right now, they are too unknown to afford them a mark higher than this.
WR: Stefon Diggs, John Brown, Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis (23/25)
Stefon Diggs transformed this wide receiver group from marginal to incredible. Diggs has already proven to be one of the best deep ball specialists and route runners in the league; he ranked in the top-ten of all wideouts in completed air yards and yards per target in 2019.
John Brown, a 1,000-yard receiver last season, moves to a WR2 role and can easily take the top off of the defense. Beasley is a veteran slot receiver who surpassed 750 receiving yards last season and Davis is a big-bodied rookie who can contribute as a red-zone weapon. What was a weakness in 2019 becomes a strength in 2020.
TE: Dawson Knox, Tyler Kroft (16/25)
I personally like Dawson Knox, as he was one of the best deep ball tight ends in 2019; he’s a big, physical athlete who excels at shaking off first contact. Unfortunately, he was also plagued by drops and did not have a diverse route tree in his rookie season. Kroft was injured for most of last season and barely a factor. This unit could overachieve, but they remain questionable at best headed into the season.
Offensive Line: Dion Dawkins, Quinton Spain, Mitch Morse, Jon Feliciano, Cody Ford (22/25)
The Buffalo offensive line vastly improved during the 2019 offseason, so there was not much need for them to add to the unit this time around. While they ranked in the middle of the pack in terms of sacks in 2019, that was mostly due to Josh Allen’s tendency to hold the ball too long and walk into sacks. This unit is above-average and should do even better as all of the starters return for a second season.
Total Score: 81/100
Summary: This unit’s ranking was brought down slightly due to Knox’s inexperience, but make no mistake, the Buffalo Bills have great talent on offense. Headed into his third season, there is no excuse for Josh Allen not to dramatically improve his completion percentage and touchdown total with all of the weapons at his disposal.
