10 NFL head coaches under the most pressure in 2020
By Dan Parzych
2. Jon Gruden, Las Vegas Raiders
Back in 2018 when the Las Vegas Raiders decided to give Jon Gruden another chance to take on the responsibilities as head coach, the hope was that he would be the missing piece to helping the team become a legitimate contender once again in the AFC playoff picture.
With Gruden’s history of quarterback development, the hiring of the head coach seemed like it would help Derek Carr elevate his game to new levels on offense.
This could very well still turn out to be the case for Carr since the Raiders deserve some credit for setting their quarterback up in better position to succeed in 2020 with an improved offense.
But if Las Vegas ends up missing out on the playoffs yet again, it will be safe to assume the Raiders look back at that whopping contract signed back in 2018, and regret their decision on Gruden.
Playing in the AFC West is going to be far from easy for years to come when seeing how strong the defending Super Bowl champions in the Kansas City Chiefs are built, but this isn’t going to stop the Raiders from at least trying.
Hopefully, the key offseason changes payoff for Gruden to help remove some of the early pressure for 2020, or he could be heading towards another season of constantly being on the hot seat.
