10 NFL head coaches under the most pressure in 2020
By Dan Parzych
3. Bill O’Brien, Houston Texans
It’s not often a head coach finds himself on the hot seat entering a new season when his team was a top playoff contender the year before, but Bill O’Brien is a special circumstance.
As if collapsing in the Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs last January wasn’t already tough enough for the Houston Texans to overcome this offseason, the team added more pressure to their plate by getting rid of their former top receiver in DeAndre Hopkins.
For whatever reason, the Texans couldn’t even convince the Arizona Cardinals to at least give up a first-round pick for Hopkins since he is one of the top receivers in the league for a reason.
And even though Houston feels confident in some of their offseason moves helping to fill the void left by Hopkins, it’s not going to be anywhere close as Hopkins impact wise.
Whether O’Brien is the right fit with the Texans as head coach has been one of the most popular topics to debate over the years, and despite back-to-back playoff appearances, this still isn’t convincing enough for the job.
After all of the missed opportunities from over the years, Houston should set the bar extremely high for O’Brien during the 2020 season when it comes to making a deep playoff run, or be ready to start fresh with someone new.
