JuJu Smith-Schuster: 5 Trades to find wide receiver a long-term home
3. Philadelphia Eagles
The fact that the Philadelphia Eagles are rebuilding their wide receiver room is not a well-kept secret. Alshon Jeffery has been oft-injured in recent years and has seemingly worn out his welcome in the City of Brotherly Love. Furthermore, there was little depth to speak of, which reared its head late in the year for the Eagles.
Subsequently, it was no surprise that Philadelphia used their first-round pick in the 2020 draft on a wide receiver. What was a bit shocking was that they elected to take Jalen Reagor, the speedster out of TCU, rather than a player like Justin Jefferson. Even more surprising, the Eagles waited until later in the draft to double down on the position, take quarterback Jalen Hurts in Round 2 over a player like Denzel Mims.
There’s no question that the Eagles have improved their receiving corp to aid Carson Wentz and the offense moving forward. There’s also no denying the fact that a JuJu Smith-Schuster trade would exponentially continue improving that group as well.
In taking Reagor, John Hightower and Quez Watkins, the Eagles added a ton of speed. But if Jeffery isn’t going to be in Philly much longer, they need a possession threat other than the tight ends who can make consistent plays on all levels of the field. Smith-Schuster could undeniably be that and continue building this offense with Wentz.
