The Packers need help at receiver, even if management believes the opposite. Green Bay failed to select a receiver in one of the deepest drafts ever. Because of that, one of the few options remaining at a potentially decent price is free agent Taylor Gabriel.

Gabriel was released by the Chicago Bears this offseason after signing a four-year contract in 2018. A former undrafted free agent in 2014, Gabriel originally signed with the Cleveland Browns but didn’t gain notoriety until he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He had a breakout season in 2016, posting 35 catches for 579 yards and six touchdowns.

One of the coaches on that 2016 Atlanta staff was current Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. LaFleur was quarterbacks coach during that time, helping Matt Ryan win his first (and only) NFL MVP award. Because of the familiarity with Gabriel, perhaps LaFleur would want to bring him in for a second go-around.

Gabriel would bring an element to the Packers’ offense that’s currently missing one thing: speed. He’d allow LaFleur to get creative in play designs on jet sweeps and bubble screens. A two-year deal wouldn’t be surprising.
