Not every offseason move made ends up working out as teams expect. With that in mind, these are the 10 signings in 2020 NFL free agency that can backfire

It could be argued that there were more big names switching teams during the 2020 NFL free agency period than at any time during the free agency era. Of course, the biggest prize was Tom Brady, the six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback who was parting ways with the only team he ever played for — the New England Patriots.

Brady ended up joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and suddenly, they feel like a team that can contend in the NFC. He wasn’t the only big-name player looking for a new home though, as fellow quarterback Philip Rivers was also on the market.

Rivers doesn’t have the hardware Brady does, but a passer of his caliber is rarely able to hit the open market and the Indianapolis Colts were thrilled to bring him in. They were competitive with Jacoby Brissett under center, but they should be even better now with Rivers.

There were some other moves that made big waves, including the Teddy Bridgewater taking over in Carolina, which led to Cam Newton being released by the Panthers. Defensive stars also got paid as Byron Jones cashed in with the richest defensive back contract after leaving the Dallas Cowboys and joining the Miami Dolphins.

Of course, not every move ends up working out the way teams plan. We all remember the bust that was Albert Haynesworth with the Washington Redskins or the Houston Texans whiff on former Denver quarterback Brock Osweiler.

While not every failed signing has as bad of implications as the aforementioned ones, it still can set a team back when the big-money moves don’t work out — and we see that happen every single year. Here, we look at the top 2020 NFL free agency signings that could blow up in their respective team’s faces.
