Even at 38 years old, veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters isn’t short on interested parties in free agency as at least four teams are interested in him.

If you take injuries out of the equation, veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters hasn’t lost a step when on an NFL field. Last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, though he missed time, the now-38-year-old lineman was among the best players at his position in the league. And now he’s still available on the free-agent market heading into 2020.

Given his age and the fact that injuries have started to crop up in recent seasons, it stands to reason why teams haven’t been overly eager to sign the offensive tackle. As we enter the doldrums of the offseason, however, there are apparently quite a few suitors for Peters on the open market.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and James Palmer, the Philadelphia Eagles have remained in contact with Jason Peters while at least three other teams, the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Denver Broncos, have also been in touch with the long-time Eagle.

In some form or fashion, all four teams reportedly interested in Jason Peters would make a ton of sense for the veteran tackle.

Should he end up staying in Philadelphia, not only would the Eagles be able to retain continuity on the offensive line but would also give the team another year to develop 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard, who had some shortcomings when he saw time as a rookie.

Though the Jets have spent a ton of money and resources on the offensive line this offseason, including paying George Fant $10 million per year and drafting Mekhi Becton in the first round, Peters would be a proven player who is readymade to slot into that line and protect their young quarterback. The same can be said of the Browns as they could bring Jedrick Wills Jr. along slower with Peters starting in 2020.

Out of the four teams, however, the Broncos might be the best fit. Denver spent a ton of draft capital and free agency money to improve the offense around young quarterback Drew Lock. However, they didn’t address issues on the offensive line, namely Garret Bolles, who has struggled since being a first-round pick.

Adding Peters to the line with Ja’Waun James on the edges would be a critical addition for Denver’s future. While having a loaded cast of young pass-catchers is great for the development of Lock, so too is making sure he’s not getting routinely clobbered behind a porous O-line. Peters would solidify that for at least the 2020 season as he garners valuable experience.

Denver may be the best fit but it remains to be seen where Jason Peters will sign. In fact, there could still be a team not mentioned in the report that could swoop in and add him. However, what seems to be certain is that the veteran offensive tackle has plenty of value still and should be suiting up somewhere in 2020, even if he remains unsigned.
