The Falcons battled to a 7-9 record last season. The offense’s lack of balance and Matt Ryan‘s struggles hurt the team. The former MVP led the NFL in sacks taken with 48, and he faced a constant onslaught from opposing defenses. Now, with Todd Gurley, Hayden Hurst and a healthy offensive line, Ryan should rebound in 2020.

Despite facing an uphill battle in 2019, Ryan still led the NFL with 408 completions and averaged 297.7 passing yards per game. He also dragged Atlanta to seven wins, despite the team’s below-average defense. Fortunately, the Falcons addressed their defensive struggles in free agency and the draft, adding Dante Fowler and A.J. Terrell. The team also gets former Pro Bowl safety Keanu Neal back from injury.

With the Falcons adding vital pieces on both sides of the ball, Ryan should return to his 2018 form this coming season. That year, Ryan completed 69.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,924 yards, 35 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He posted a 108.1 passer rating. That’s one of the most underrated seasons by a quarterback in recent history, and Ryan can replicate that performance this fall.

Because he struggled in 2019, Ryan sits outside this ranking’s top 10 quarterbacks. However, he could climb into the top seven if he gets enough protection from Atlanta’s offensive line this coming season.
