. . Dak Prescott . 9. player. 123.

The disrespect Dak Prescott gets is mostly unwarranted. Between playing for one of the most disliked franchises in the league and the ongoing contract situation with Dallas, he’s not a very popular guy right now. Nevertheless, Prescott’s current situation shouldn’t overshadow the tremendous growth he’s gone through during his first four seasons in the NFL.

The Cowboys initially took Prescott with the 135th overall pick in 2016, but Prescott started all 16 games for Dallas as a rookie. Since taking over for Tony Romo, Prescott has gone 40-24 and expanded his capabilities as a quarterback.

After averaging 3,625 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns in his first three seasons, Prescott exploded for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2019. He finished the season with a 99.7 passer rating, but the Cowboys only went 8-8 and missed the playoffs.

Dallas added more weapons for Prescott this offseason. Notably, the team drafted Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb in the first round. Arguably the best and most well-rounded receiver in the entire draft class, Lamb joins Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup in Dallas’ expanding arsenal. It’s a good thing the offense is so loaded too because the defense could crumble this coming season.

While Prescott put up good overall statistics in 2019, his production didn’t translate to winning. The Cowboys might focus on returning to the run game in 2020, instead of relying so much on their quarterback.
