8. player. 54. . . . Carson Wentz

Last season, Carson Wentz put the Eagles on his back and carried Philadelphia to a 9-7 record and a playoff berth. Unfortunately, Wentz suffered an injury on a questionable hit by Jadeveon Clowney during the Wild Card Round. Philadelphia lost to Seattle 9-17.

Philadelphia’s receiving corps dealt with injuries throughout 2019. At the end of the year, Alshon Jeffery led the team’s wide receivers with 43 receptions, 490 yards, and four touchdowns. Luckily, Philadelphia’s tight ends and Miles Sanders stepped up to fill the void in production left by all of the team’s injured receivers.

However, even the team’s tight ends occasionally dealt with issues, and sometimes Greg Ward served as Philadelphia’s top receiving option. Ward played quarterback at Houston in college, but he converted to wide receiver when he entered the NFL. With all of the injuries to his supporting cast, Wentz still threw for 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Wentz played a massive role in Philadelphia’s greatest wins last season. In Week 4, against the Green Bay Packers, he threw three touchdowns and recorded a 113.2 passer rating. Then, in a battle for the division against Dallas in Week 16, Wentz completed 77.5 percent of his pass attempts for 319 yards and a touchdown.

The biggest knock on Wentz, which could prevent him from ever entering the NFL’s elite quarterback group, is that he can’t stay healthy for a full 16-game season plus the playoffs. Hopefully, Wentz plays the entire 2020 season.
