NFL Quarterback Power Rankings 2020: Patrick Mahomes is head of the class

This selection should come as a surprise to no one. In his first two seasons as a full-time starter, Patrick Mahomes rewrote record books, won a regular-season MVP, captured a Super Bowl title and won the Super Bowl MVP. No other quarterback in recent history started their career with that level of success, and Mahomes should only get better as he enters his fourth season.

Mahomes missed two games last season, which sunk his campaign for back-to-back MVPs. However, he still achieved an 11-3 record as a starter and led Kansas City to a 12-4 overall record. During the regular season, he completed 65.9 percent of his pass attempts for 4,031 yards, 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. However, he arguably performed better in the playoffs.

Mahomes and the Chiefs battled back from poor starts in their first two playoff games, eliminating the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. Mahomes did not turn the ball over in either of those performances and only took two sacks.

He completed 23 of his 35 pass attempts in both contests and totaled 615 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns. Mahomes also ran for 106 yards and another score.

While he posted passer ratings over 120 in his first two playoff games, Mahomes did struggle in the Super Bowl. He took four sacks and threw two interceptions but returned to form when Kansas City needed him most. The Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in 50 years.

Now, Mahomes begins chasing the legacies left by recent all-time greats like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
