2021 NFL Mock Draft: Trevor Lawrence tank pays off for Jaguars, Trey Lance to Raiders
Had he not elected to return to Florida State for the 2020 season, there’s a good chance that defensive tackle Marvin Wilson would’ve been a top-50 pick in this year’s draft. However, he’s back in what should be a substantially better situation in Tallahassee this year and he’s in line to cement himself as one of the top defensive tackles in the 2021 draft class.
At 6-5, 311 pounds, Wilson is a mammoth of a man on the interior of the defensive line. He isn’t just size, however, as he plays with tremendous power and a great motor on the interior. Consistently, he can win with his strength, especially when he keeps his pad level low. Furthermore, he has a great feel for the position as both a run and pass defender. Take a look at the type of plays he can make.
While Wilson may not be the most explosive player, he has enough juice to go with his power and enough technique as well to be a substantially effective player on an NFL defensive line.
The Cardinals need to continue addressing their defense after using their first-round pick on Isaiah Simmons. Their next area of focus should be in the trenches where they lack any players who they will likely be able to consistently rely upon for the long haul. Adding Wilson here changes their fortunes in that regard.
