2021 NFL Mock Draft: Trevor Lawrence tank pays off for Jaguars, Trey Lance to Raiders
Many expected all three of the leading Alabama wide receivers from last season — Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Devonta Smith — to come out with Tua Tagovailoa in the 2020 draft. The first two indeed did that, landing with the Broncos and Raiders, respectively. But Smith elected to return to Tuscaloosa one more season and has a chance to be a record-breaker for the Crimson Tide.
Now the no-question top target in the Alabama offense, Smith is coming off a highly productive season, albeit one with ups and downs. He had a five-touchdown game and other multi-score games but wasn’t always heard from in the crowded wide receiver room. Even still, he ended the 2019 season with 68 catches for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns.
While there are some questions at quarterback for Bama, if Smith can be a more consistent star for the Crimson Tide, he’ll be a first-round lock in the 2021 NFL Draft. And why not make the Dolphins his new home.
Using the other first-round pick that they acquired from the Houston Texans in the Laremy Tunsil trade, Miami reunites Tagovailoa and Smith to give their offense a jolt. With his route-running and ability to separate downfield, Smith will be a welcome sight as the Dolphins likely try to make a surge up the standings starting in the 2021 season.
