Pick Analysis. OT. Alex Leatherwood. Scouting Report. Alabama. 22. player. 36

Alex Leatherwood has done it all throughout his career with the Alabama Crimson Tide. A highly touted recruit, he played at guard early in his career while waiting to start at tackle. He was great there, then took over at left tackle and, lo and behold, he remained proficient at that spot as well. Now he’s returning for the 2020 season under Nick Saban and we can only expect more of the same.

There was hype about Leatherwood potentially coming out in the 2020 NFL Draft but he elected to return to Alabama. Even last year, though, Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network praised the athleticism that allows him to be so versatile:

"Man, Leatherwood is athletic! He moves really well in space and his mirror ability is something to take note of. He’s not afraid to embrace the path of least resistance as a blocker in zone concepts, consistently turning out defenders and using momentum against them to win spacing. Shows a ton of natural power and strength as a blocker to win and reset the LOS, pairing it with a dynamic first step to gain ground and win on the correct side of the line of scrimmage. Athletic build carries weight very well, he’s a natural mover and can thrive in gap or zone concepts."

We should probably stop expecting the Seahawks to do the smart thing in the NFL Draft but, if we’re talking about what they should do, this is it. Leatherwood is the talented and movable piece that their saloon-door offensive line has needed for so long and getting him here would be a huge asset for Seattle’s offense.
