2021 NFL Mock Draft: Trevor Lawrence tank pays off for Jaguars, Trey Lance to Raiders
Trey Smith made the decision to return for his senior season with the Tennessee Volunteers in 2020 despite how highly he could’ve been selected in this year’s draft. Smith would’ve likely been off the board in the first two rounds as he was widely regarded as one of the top interior offensive linemen in the country. However, he’s ready to move back to tackle where he can star.
While there are some medical red flags with Smith as he dealt with issues regarding blood clots in his lungs, the tape on the big man in Knoxville shows a tremendous NFL prospect. He’s unbelievably powerful at the point of attack and can move well all things considered for a player with his strength and power.
Furthermore, returning for the 2020 season at Tennessee could benefit Smith’s stock in two ways. For one, if he stays healthy, that will help check a box for him. More than that, however, if the Vols are able to take a step forward as a team, that will naturally put more eyes on him and what he’s able to do on the offensive line.
The Buffalo Bills have built a strong overall roster, especially if Josh Allen can develop further. However, the offensive line could use an infusion of youth and perhaps a talent upgrade as well. With Smith’s positional versatility, he could be a huge asset for this team in the trenches.
