TE. Penn State. Pat Freiermuth. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 29. 15

Pat Freiermuth has garnered quite a following throughout his two years in Happy Valley. The Penn State tight end hasn’t exactly been out-of-this-world productive for the Nittany Lions but he has been impressive enough overall to gain many fans that have called him “Baby Gronk”, which is sure to turn heads in the NFL.

In 12 games as a freshman, Freiermuth caught only 26 passes but showed how dangerous he can be as he took those receptions for 368 yards and eight touchdowns. Despite some inconsistency from a young quarterback in 2019 as a freshman, the big tight end was still productive, catching 43 balls for 507 yards and seven scores in 13 games.

He elected to return for another year at Penn State, despite the chance to possibly be TE1 in the weak 2020 class. However, he could still be TE1 in the 2021 NFL Draft. The 6-5, 256-pounder is a big body that can block in line but also make plays as a bulldozing pass-catcher in the open field and in the red zone.

The Saints are still in need of adding weapons in the passing game outside of Michael Thomas and, though Jared Cook has been good for them, his best days may be behind him now. Replacing him with Freiermuth would be a boost for this offense, whether it’s Drew Brees or someone else at quarterback.
