Losing players in free agency is becoming a norm for the Dallas Cowboys and these three players could be entering their last season with the team

Over the past few seasons, the Dallas Cowboys have started to become one of the more cap-conscious teams in the NFL. This doesn’t mean they’re cheap, by any means, but instead, they’re just careful about where they allocate their money.

We have seen this as they backed up the Brinks truck for DeMarcus Lawrence, Ezekiel Elliott, Jaylon Smith and Amari Cooper recently while allowing Robert Quinn, Randall Cobb and Byron Jones to walk. What this shows is they have a belief about where they have to spend their money and where they can find replacements.

Seeing how they’re building their roster, we can look at which players are entering the final year of their contract and identify three veterans who are most likely in the final season of their Dallas career.

On the fence: Xavier Woods, Safety

The Cowboys signed Ha Ha Clinton-Dix this offseason which gives them an experienced free safety who has had a lot of success in the NFL. That’s good news for them but not so much for Xavier Woods who will likely be the one shifting to a new position.

A former sixth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech, Woods has been a good player but seems to be just short of breaking out. Perhaps moving to strong safety could be the change he needs since it won’t require him to play the centerfield role.

There’s also a chance he won’t take well to this role. Should that be the case, this could be the final season for him in Dallas. Of course, the best-case scenario is that Clinton-Dix and Woods both do well together since it would solve a group that has been a problem for many years in Dallas.
