Arizona Cardinals. 30. team. 32. . .

It’s not often they’re mentioned as one of the longest-standing NFL teams but the Arizona Cardinals have a history that dates back to 1920. Back then, they were known as the Chicago Cardinals. In 1944, they temporarily became known as Card-Pitt when they combined with the Pittsburgh Steelers to form a complete team during World War II when many of the players were called into military service.

They went right back to Chicago in 1945 and stayed until 1960 when they became the St. Louis Cardinals. While in Chicago, they wore a few different shades of red while having gold as a secondary color. They introduced blue to the uniforms in 1933 and kept the gold. Eventually, they switched that to silver before realizing the white goes best with their shade of red.

In the late 50s they finally ditched the blue but then made a big change in 1960 when they moved to St. Louis. This is when they went with the cardinal on the helmet and they kept this look when they moved to Phoenix, although they did add the Arizona state flag to their shoulder.

The Cardinals made a big change in 2005 to the uniforms we know now. They changed to a more fierce-looking Cardinal for the logo and went crazy with the shoulder stripes. They added a black alternate in 2005 which looks better than the red but considering they’re Cardinals, that shouldn’t be the case. It’s well past time for another re-boot and trying to look to the past for guidance wouldn’t be the worst idea for them.
