5 Dallas Cowboys who could come out of retirement and play today

2. DeMarcus Ware, EDGE
Quite possibly the best pick Bill Parcells ever made for Dallas came in 2005 when he chose Troy defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who he wanted to use as his star edge rusher in the team’s 3-4 defense. Ware’s transition to the outside linebacker role was flawless and he quickly became the pass-rushing terror Parcells expected him to be.
In nine seasons, Ware recorded 117 sacks which included 20 in 2008 and 19.5 in 2011. Sadly, his time with Dallas came to an end following the 2013 season. Released due to salary cap trouble, the Cowboys had to watch as Ware continued his career with the Denver Broncos.
It was a wise move by No. 94 considering he found a home that suited his talent, and he was also able to win a Super Bowl ring with the Broncos. He ended up with 21.5 sacks in his final three seasons in the NFL and decided to retire in 2017 despite there being some interest in his services.
There was even an indication there could be a home for him back in Dallas as a pass-rushing specialist. Ware would have been able to handle that role fine and could still do so now even though he’s turning 38 this summer.
And the way the Cowboys defensive line is looking, having Ware out there on third and long would be a welcome addition.
