AFC West

Arizona Cardinals: Deshazor Everett, S, Washington

Although the Cardinals’ biggest need is arguably a better backup to quarterback Kyler Murray (Cam Newton? Colin Kaepernick?), they could also use it on defense, particularly in the secondary. At safety, the team has budding superstar Budda Baker and not much else. He could use a good running mate on the back end.

Deshazor Everett has seen plenty of playing time with Washington, but he might be better in a starting role. That’s something that Arizona could give him. He’s a fast and instinctual player who would pair well with Baker and would only cost a Day 3 pick.

Los Angeles Rams: Will Grier, QB, Panthers

There are a lot of areas where the Rams could improve. The problem is, they don’t have the cap space to do so due to a lot of current and upcoming big contracts. It’s one of the reasons why they had to let players like Cory Littleton and Dante Fowler Jr. leave in free agency and why the team released Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews.

One area the team could improve at is the backup quarterback. GM Les Snead should try and target younger signal callers who have starter upside as former No.1 overall Jared Goff has been very up and down during his NFL career. Why not take a shot on someone like Will Grier? He was drafted by the Panthers’ old regime, and their new leadership is taking the team into a rebuild. Grier could learn from one of the league’s best offensive minds in Sean McVay and potentially be a starter down the line. That’s definitely worth a Day 3 pick.

San Francisco 49ers: Cameron Sutton, CB, Steelers

This deal is more about the future for San Francisco. They already have a solid cornerback trio of Richard Sherman, Akhello Witherspoon and K’Wuan Williams. However, all three are free agents after the 2020 season. So John Lynch will have to add both depth and players who could potentially start next season.

Young cornerbacks who could be expendable to their teams should be the target. The 49ers should inquire about the Steelers’ duo of Justin Layne and Cameron Sutton. Both are young players who have shown starting ability in flashes, so they could develop into long term pieces of the 49ers secondary. Sutton has played both inside and outside, so he should be the focus. Another Day 3 pick could get a deal done.

Seattle Seahawks: Carlos Dunlap, EDGE, Bengals

Despite the presence of Jadeveon Clowney last season, the Seahawks’ pass rush was still one of the worst in the league. Now Clowney is likely gone, so Seattle needs pass rush help even more. One of the best ways to improve this unit would be via trade.

It would behoove GM John Schneider to give a call to Cincinnati to see if he can pry loose one of their pass rushers. The Bengals would most likely want to keep Sam Hubbard the most, so Carlos Dunlap and Carl Lawson would be moved in this scenario. However, Schneider should see if Dunlap can be had for a third-round pick. If that’s the case, then this deal should get done tomorrow.
