Tight End (4): Dawson Knox, Tyler Kroft, Lee Smith, Tommy Sweeney

The Bills did not add anyone to the tight end room, mainly because they are content with what they have on the roster. Dawson Knox showed promise as a rookie, making several impressive stiff-arms and acting as a reliable deep threat down the seam for this offense.

Drops and poor route-running plagued him in his first season, but I believe the Bills are comfortable with Knox taking a leap in his sophomore season and becoming a reliable starter.

Tyler Kroft didn’t get much opportunity last year due to his injury in training camp, but he took a pay cut this offseason to remain with the team. He caught the go-ahead touchdown pass on an impressive corner route last season versus Pittsburgh, so the Bills will likely keep him as their second-string tight end.

Lee Smith and Tommy Sweeney edge out Jason Croom due to the former’s specialty as a blocker and the latter’s potential as a second-year player. Croom has shown flashes during prior preseasons, but I don’t think it is enough to supplant the veteran Smith and promising Sweeney.

For a team that ran 11 personnel over 70 percent of the time last season and will likely increase that utilization with Diggs’ addition, four tight ends is a more than sufficient amount to keep on the roster.
