These Chicago Bears position battles will help determine their 2020 outlook.

The Chicago Bears had an underwhelming 2019 season. They limped into a record of 8-8. The offense struggled to gain yards and points and the defense suffered through a number of injuries.

Throughout this offseason, general manager Ryan Pace made some changes to the roster so that the team could compete for the NFC North title and make a playoff run. Those moves, however, resulted in a lot of criticism. Many so-called experts expect the Bears to finish in the bottom of the division and near the top of next year’s draft list.

One thing Pace did was create some position battles. There are groups of players at certain key positions who will compete for not only a starting spot but also a spot in the rotation.

Pace did the same with the kicker’s position last season. He had a group of kickers to start camp, then had two players battle it out during the preseason. Pace felt that the competition would bring out the best in each of them.

They did perform well and in the end Eddy Pineiro won the job. He had some hiccups during the season but finished the season strong, After missing two key field goals in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams, he connected on 11 consecutive field goal attempts.

This season, Pace wants to spread the competition around and there are a number of battles at different positions. Hopefully, the battles bring out the best in all involved and help the Bears through a successful season.

Here are some key battles to look at when training camp begins, whenever that is.
