1. Starting quarterback

This is the most important battle for the Chicago Bears. They need a player who can lead the offense. He needs to read the defense and let go of the ball quickly and he needs to run the run/pass option that Nagy likes to run in his system.

Incumbent Mitchell Trubisky struggled in 2019. He threw for 3,138 yards in 2019. That was considered a regression from 2018, but his passing yards that season was 3,223 yards which isn’t very much different.

At the end of the year press conference, Pace stated, per NFL.com, that the Bears would enter the 2020 season as the starting quarterback. Then he went out and picked up an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach who helped run the system with Nagy in Philadelphia with the Eagles. Additionally, he went and signed a quarterback who played well in the system — Nick Foles.

Now Trubisky looks to be behind without a snap being made. Foles ran the same type of system Nagy runs to perfection on his way to winning Super Bowl LII and the MVP of the game.

Perhaps this is what Trubisky needs, the push to make him better. The coaches have tried everything but with Chase Daniel behind him, he didn’t have to worry about getting benched. The closest he came was at the end of the game against the Los Angeles Rams. Look at how that caused a ruckus.

Now Trubisky will have Foles pushing him hard. Foles can even push him to the bench. It will be an interesting battle. Pace feels that competition brings out the best in players and if that happens at the quarterback the offense should improve. Let’s hope that turns out to be true and the Chicago Bears improve in 2020.
