NFC East: Washington Redskins

The NFC East wasn’t a great division in 2019. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles entered the season as the two favorites and while it came down to them for the title, neither seemed as though they wanted to run away with things. In the end, the Eagles won out with a 9-7 mark, just ahead of the 8-8 Cowboys.

The New York Giants and Washington Redskins were never in the mix as they finished at 4-12 and 3-13 respectively. With all that being the case, the expectation again in 2020 is for the Cowboys and Eagles to be the top dogs in this division.

Philly added a new offensive weapon in Jalen Reagor, which will help considering how bad they were at receiver by season’s end. As for Dallas, they had a great offseason which included adding CeeDee Lamb at receiver as well as Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe at defensive tackle.

However, the Washington Redskins also made some good moves. In the draft, they landed Chase Young, who is arguably the best overall talent. The Ohio State edge rusher could improve the entire defense especially when considering he’s starting alongside Montez Sweat who had a strong rookie season in 2019.

They also have a more experienced Dwayne Haskins now under center and on defense, they signed Kendall Fuller to replace Josh Norman who never lived up to his contract.

Most importantly, they landed a proven head coach in Ron Rivera. A defensive-minded coach, Rivera led the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 mark in 2015 and they represented the NFC in the Super Bowl. They never won it all but they were always competitive under Rivera and he can be the steadying force they need to finally contend in the NFC East.
