Jacksonville Jaguars: Davon Hamilton, DT
With three picks in the first 42 selections in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars were able to add a lot of talent to their roster. Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson and LSU EDGE K’Lavon Chaisson went to them at No. 9 and No. 20 respectively. They then added Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault.
Seeing all three on the field as starters in year one wouldn’t be a surprise at all. They’re all talented and fill pretty big needs for the Jags. They also were such strong picks that it overshadowed the good move they made in the third round when they selected Ohio State defensive tackle Davon Hamilton.
Measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 320-pounds at the Combine, Hamilton looks the part of the traditional one-technique tackle, a position that often gets overlooked. The reason for that is their lack of presence in the pass-rushing department, and Hamilton is no exception there. Considered a powerful player in run defense, Hamilton likely won’t provide many sacks, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be a star for the Jags.
With other players on the roster capable of getting after the passer, including Josh Allen and Chaisson, Hamilton will be asked to do what he does best — shut down the running lanes. He might not be a player who garners national attention but the Jaguars faithful will grow to love him quickly for what he brings to the table.
