Philadelphia Eagles: John Hightower, WR

No team shook us up quite the way the Philadelphia Eagles did during the 2020 NFL Draft. With the 53rd selection in the draft, Philly grabbed Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, which was a highly unexpected move. Hurts was a Heisman Trophy semifinalist and has enough promise to believe he can be a franchise quarterback. The problem is, the Eagles already have their guy in Carson Wentz who signed a massive extension less than a year before they drafted Hurts.

As soon as the pick was made, there were comparisons to Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints — which are absurd. Hill was an undrafted free agent who is now a backup quarterback in name only. What Hill really does is play tight end, H-Back, and serves on special teams where he sometimes blocks punts, and at other times, he takes down the ball carrier on the other team.

Hurts is not doing any of that. And acting like he will is crazy. Not only that but for those excited about the prospect, a gadget-player is not worth a second-round pick and is also never the difference maker that puts a team over the top.

After that curious pick, things improved for the Eagles and they might have a solid depth piece f in fifth-round receiver John Hightower. A community college transfer, Hightower played well for Boise State and gives Philadelphia some height on the outside, which is something they’re in desperate need of. His talent mixed with their need could help him be a contributor from day one.
