NFL Power Rankings: Chiefs, Ravens remain hot as facilities begin to reopen
By Randy Gurzi
It’s hard to figure out what is going on with Bill O’Brien. The Houston Texans head coach has more power than just about any other head coach in the NFL. The weird thing about it is he doesn’t have a ton of success to match the power he has been given. While he does have plenty of winning seasons, he’s just 2-4 in the postseason. But what’s more confusing about his ability to make all decisions is the way he has performed as the general manager.
O’Brien gave up a third-round pick last season for a third-down back in Duke Johnson and then overpaid for Laremy Tunsil. Even more bewildering was the move he made this offseason where he gave up DeAndre Hopkins in exchange for a second-round pick and running back David Johnson.
They did land Brandin Cooks, but that also cost them a second-round pick, and Randall Cobb in free agency. Of course, this is nowhere near the firepower they had with Hopkins who has arguably been one of the top-three wideouts in the entire league.
With other teams in the division improving, things could get tough for O’Brien. He’s had the benefit of playing against some struggling franchises and if that’s gone, so too could be his consecutive winning seasons.
