9. team. 35. . . Previous: 8th. Tennessee Titans

One of the biggest surprises in 2019 was the way the Tennessee Titans nearly made it to the Super Bowl. One of the more surprising playoff entrants, the Titans went on a roll as running back Derrick Henry bowled over defenders at a record pace as the NFL rushing leader carried the Titans past the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens.

Henry was spectacular but he wasn’t doing it alone. The Titans also had a great defense that could make life miserable for anyone they faced. In their first round of the playoffs, they held Tom Brady and the Pats to just 13 points. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, they then went into Baltimore and snapped their 12-game winning streak while holding them to just 12 points.

They ended up losing to the Chiefs but they return practically the same roster this year after franchise tagging Henry and then giving Ryan Tannehill a massive contract. That, however, is the one major question this team faces in 2020. Tannehill was clearly an upgrade over Marcus Mariota but they were at their best when he didn’t have the ball.

For example, Tannehill threw 29 passes combined in their wins over New England and Baltimore and had 72 yards and 88 yards respectively. When they lost to Kansas City, he had 31 passing attempts and 209 yards. He wasn’t bad but the question is why they would give nearly $30 million to someone they obviously thought of as a game manager. Time will tell if this was the wise move, but they’re still a team to watch after that finish to 2019.
