. . Previous: 7th. Dallas Cowboys. 6. team. 123

A 3-0 start last season had people buying into the Dallas Cowboys, but then they did what they always did in the Jason Garrett era — they took their foot off the gas. Feeling as though the hot start guaranteed them the NFC East, the Cowboys shrugged off loss after loss, constantly talking about how the next game was the one that really mattered.

For whatever reason, that was how Garrett faced things. No drive, no play, no game ever had any feeling of urgency to it. Instead, the team stayed even keel all the time much like the dog in the famous meme with flames all around him saying things are fine.

Eventually, the powers that be caught on and let Garrett’s contract run out. And in his place is Mike McCarthy, who has much more clout than Garrett. He also should be more understanding of how every game actually matters — considering he spent last season out of the league after being fired late in 2018 by the Green Bay Packers.

As for the roster, Dallas has as good a team as there is in the league. They added Gerald McCoy, Dontari Poe, and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency then dominated the draft with CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, and Neville Gallimore being their top three picks.

All that adds up to them being the favorite in their division and one of the better teams in the NFC. They have been here before in the offseason though. The question is if they can stay here as the year plays out.
